Tenor Yungbae Yang is a very compelling artist both vocally and dramatically. His more recent appearances have included Rodolfo in Opera San Jose’s 2017 production of La Bohème. In the previous season, he was featured as Edgardo in their production of Lucia. He has been heard as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Paniel Choir at Lincoln Center (New York) and Mozart’s Requiem with the DCINY at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He had two performances in late 2017, the first one with the Harmony for Peace Foundation in A Musical Journey of Unity and Harmony and then again with the Paniel Choir as tenor soloist in Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio in Paramus NJ.

His more recent operatic roles have included Riccardo in Verdi’s
Un ballo in maschera, Alfredo in La Traviata, the Duke in Rigoletto, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, and the title role in Gounod’s Faust.

What is remarkable about this talented artist is that he actually began his professional singing career as a baritone. While studying at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, he sang many of the standard baritone roles that included Figaro
Enrico, Valentin, Mr. Ford, Marcello, Frank, in addition to others.

After leaving the AVA, he was engaged by Dallas Opera for the role of Figaro in
Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He sang the role of Sharpless in a Korean National Opera production of Madama Butterfly, was engaged by the Greensboro Opera Company in the role of Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, and for Opera Company of North Carolina’s production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia in the role of Figaro which he also sang for the Singapore Lyric Opera.

Starting in 2011, however, under the careful guidance of noted voice teacher Bill Schuman, Mr. Yang began the transition to tenor.

With his early career as a baritone, Yungbae Yang was bestowed several honors and awards that included a New York District winner of Metropolitan Opera National
Council Audition, 1st place winner of the Marian Anderson Competition, a winner of the Liederkranz Foundation Award, Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Award, Zachary Vocal Competition National Finalist, a 2
nd place winner in Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition and the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition.

Mr. Yang received his Artist Diploma from The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and Bachelor of Music degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea.
