Sacramento Youth Symphony
Summer 2017


Timm Rolek, conductor and music director, is passionate about the development of young talent. The Sacramento Youth Symphony has engaged his services as a conductor and coach for the past several seasons. This summer, 2017, he will again be present for week #2 of this program – the Chamber Music Workshop.

This prestigious summer program offers two weeks of workshops designed to meet the needs of young musicians at different levels of proficiency.

Week #1 is the Mentor Program that takes place from 26-30 June 2017 at St. Anthony Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento CA 95831.

Application and auditions are required. Program accepts 8 advanced string students who will assist the coaching staff during warm-up, technique and chamber music coaching sessions. For more information, be sure to check the information on the

Week #2 is the Chamber Music Workshop from 10-14 July 2017 and takes place at Sacramento State University, Capistrano Hall, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819, daily from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm.

This program is suitable for young musicians ranging from 11-19 years with at least two years of experience on their primary musical instrument. Instruments accepted into this program are violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, french horn & harp. Brass players are accepted only if there are at least four brass participants who register for the program.

Students are grouped into trios, quartets and quintets according to age and musical proficiency. These groups are coached in rehearsal and performance techniques and are taught how to work independently on musical interpretation and general ensemble playing.
